Matcha porridge
Matcha porridge is warm, creamy and fills you up for longer than normal porridge. The combination of complex carbohydrates and the caffeine in matcha provides steady energy without a crash - ideal for the morning.
Ingredients (1 portion)
- 1-2g MatchaTime Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha (approx. 1-2 bamboo spoons / chashaku)
- 80g oat flakes
- 250ml oat milk
- 100ml water
- 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
- pinch of salt
- Topping: banana slices, peanut butter, granola or fresh berries
Preparation
1. place the rolled oats in a pan with the oat milk, water and a pinch of salt. Simmer over a medium heat, stirring, for approx. 5 minutes until the desired consistency is reached.
2. remove the pan from the heat. Sieve the matcha powder through a fine sieve directly into the porridge.
3. stir in immediately until the color is an even emerald green.
4. add honey or maple syrup. Pour into a bowl and garnish with toppings of your choice.
Tips
Why remove from the heat? Matcha loses its aroma and nutrients when heated too high (over 80°C). Therefore only stir in at the end.
Creamier: Use oat milk instead of water.
Sweeter: Boil and mash a ripe banana - natural sweetness without sugar.
Why Ceremonial Grade?
Matcha quality determines the color and taste of porridge. Ceremonial Grade produces an intense emerald green and a mild umami flavor - no bitter aftertaste.
