Matcha Affogato

The most elegant dessert that is ready in 2 minutes. A scoop of vanilla ice cream with a hot, concentrated matcha shot on top. The ice cream melts slowly, matcha and vanilla combine. Warm and cold at the same time, bitter and sweet, Japanese and Italian.

Ingredients (1 portion)

  • 2g MatchaTime Organic Matcha (approx. 2 bamboo spoons)
  • 60ml water (80°C)
  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • Optional: Matcha powder for dusting
  • Optional: Amaretti biscuits or cantuccini to serve with it

Preparation

1. sieve the matcha through a fine sieve, whisk vigorously with 60ml water at 80°C until a concentrated, slightly frothy shot is formed.
2. pour the vanilla ice cream into a small bowl or glass straight from the freezer.
3 Pour the hot matcha shot immediately over the ice cream.
4. optionally, dust the matcha powder over the top through a fine sieve.
5. serve immediately and enjoy before the ice cream melts completely.

The experience

A Matcha Affogato is neither stirred nor waited for. You dip the spoon through the hot matcha into the cold ice cream and take both at the same time. The ice cream melts in the warmth of the matcha, the matcha cools in the ice cream. That is the experience.

Tips

Ice cream flavor: Vanilla is the classic. Coconut ice cream for a vegan version is also excellent.
More intense: 3g matcha for a stronger contrast to the sweet ice cream.
