Iced Brown Sugar Matcha
Caramel depth meets intense umami. The Iced Brown Sugar Matcha is the most popular café trend of recent years, and it is just as easy to make at home as it is in the coffee shop next door.
Ingredients (1 portion)
- 1-2g MatchaTime Organic Matcha (approx. 1-2 bamboo spoons)
- 50ml water (80°C)
- 150ml oat milk (cold)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar syrup (recipe below)
- ice cubes
Brown sugar syrup (for approx. 10 portions)
Stir 100g brown sugar and 100ml water in a saucepan over a medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Simmer for 5 minutes, cool and store in a jar in the fridge. Keeps for 2 weeks.
Preparation
1. sieve the matcha through a fine sieve, whisk vigorously with 50ml water at 80°C.
2. fill a glass with ice cubes, add brown sugar syrup.
3. pour the cold oat milk over the ice.
4 Slowly pour the matcha over a spoon for a layered effect.
5. stir gently before drinking to combine the syrup, milk and matcha.
Tips
Buy ready-made syrup: Brown sugar syrup is available in coffee bars or online, for example Monin Brown Sugar Syrup.
Layered effect: Pour in all the ingredients individually and slowly for the perfect photo.
More intense: 2g matcha for a stronger contrast to the sweet syrup.
